British Section

Years 7 and 8 (Key Stage Three)

Students choosing the British Section in Years 7 and 8 follow an accelerated programme based on the Key Stage Three National Curriculum of England.

This two-year Lower School curriculum is broad and balanced, comprising studies in: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Art, Music, Drama, PE, Design Technology, Arabic and Religion. HRCF (Homeroom Community Forum). offered as a regular feature in the timetable, provides the opportunity for students to access an enrichment curriculum in personal, social and health education.

During Year 8 students have opportunities to discuss the options available to them for further study. Options Meetings and parent/student/teacher consultations enable appropriate choices to be made as they graduate from the Lower School and embark on their external examination courses.

Formative assessment of all forms is undertaken in all subjects throughout the academic year and reported to parents in formal school report cards thrice yearly. Formal internal examinations take place for all Year 7 and 8 students towards the end of each academic year, in June.
.
Years 9 and 10 (Key Stage Four)

Students study 8 IGCSE subjects (or 9 if they choose to include Arabic) and are examined at the end of Year 10. Regular internal assessment occurs throughout the two years in the form of marking classwork, homework and tests, in addition to more formal mid-year (Year 10) and end‑of-year examinations (Year 9).

A full list of the courses on offer is included in the school's Options Booklet which is available on request. In addition to their exam subjects, students study the Ministry of Education's curriculum of Arabic, Religion and Civil Studies, as well as participate in PE lessons (4 periods per week) and HRCF (Homeroom Community Forum) which is offered as a regular feature in the timetable and provides the opportunity for students to access an enrichment curriculum in personal, social and health education.

Years 11 and 12 (Key Stage Five)
Students study AS levels in Year 11 and complete selected subjects to full A-levels in Year 12. The public examinations are held at the end of each year. A minimum of grade C at IGCSE is required to begin an AS-level course. Details of the courses on offer are included in the school's Options Booklet which is available on request. Students are advised to choose their AS and A-level courses with regard to their University and career aspirations. Internal assessment follows a similar pattern to that in Years 9 and 10.

In addition to their exam subjects, students study Arabic, Religion and Civil Studies, as well as participate in PE lessons (4 periods per week) and HRCF (Homeroom Community Forum) which is offered as a regular feature of the timetable and provides the opportunity for students to access an enrichment curriculum in personal, social and health education.
